Louver Sizes

The size of a louver refers to the distance from the leading edge to the trailing edge of the louver. Generally speaking, the louver sizes rang in size from 2-½, 3-½, to 4 -½ inches.

The thickness of a louver is measured at its centerline. A flat louver will have a consistent thickness while a symmetrical louver will be thickest at its centerline. The thickness of louvers generally ranges from ¼ up to ½ inch.

Color Options

You can choose between 23 paint coats and 27 stain finishes depending on your material choice. Color is a reflection of your personality. It transforms a home, much like our shutters. Whether your palette is inspired by an existing shutter, a trim detail or even the flowers in your garden, we have a hue for you.

Selecting Shutter Colors: The Basics:

  • Opt for white or neutral shutters.
  • Stay natural with wood
  • Make a feature of shutters
  • Link shutter color to the room scheme

Tilt Rod Options

Tilt rods can be split into two main categories as they can be either visible or hidden. Here’s all you need to know before making your selection. Visible tilt rods are the type that can be seen by the naked eye, and include a vertically hanging rod that can be turned to set the angle of the slats. Hidden tilt rods are less conspicuous as they are built into the shutter itself. Instead, the only visible part is seen on the inside of the stile.

Features of each type of tilt rod:

    Visible tilt rods

  • Visible tilt rods bring a classic traditional look, which makes them ideal for classic styled shutters. If looking to build a vintage look, or maintain the traditional vibe, visible tilt rods are a great solution.
  • Visible tile rods become a part of the unit, standing out to make the shutters an even bigger feature within the room. Given the amount of time and money invested in the product, this can only be a positive.
  • Visible tilt rods are easier for guests to use as there is no need for them to search around. This can be an issue for the hidden alternatives. Besides, the fact that everyone has used visible tilt rods before makes life simpler too.
  • Hidden tilt rods

  • Hidden tilt rods look fantastic in a contemporary home, as they embrace modern mechanisms. This makes them ideal for any homeowner looking to bring their living spaces into the modern day.
  • Hidden tilt rods bring a streamlined appeal as there is no rod to cut through the louvres. The hidden option additionally prevents the lines and divides that can be produced by the visible style. It’s one less item to worry about cleaning too.
  • Hidden tilt rods are built into the shutter mechanism, meaning there’s no extra pole or rod for children to mess around with this. In turn, this can prevent injuries as well as damage to the shutters themselves.

Mounting Options: inside or outside

The inside mount installation makes the shutter look like an integral part of the window. However, this solution has the disadvantage of the reveal walls preventing the shutter panels from folding completely back. In other words, with an inside mounting option the shutters can only fold by 90 degrees (or until they touch the walls). Nonetheless, this is often the preferred shutter mounting option.

If your window alignment is not regular (you can determine this by taking the measurement according to our guide), it would be advisable to choose an outside mounting option. In this case the frame will fit outside the window recess and will square off any inconsistencies in the window alignment.

Another advantage of the outside mounting is that the shutter panels can be folded back completely against the wall. This could be an interesting feature for those who want to keep their shutters open during the day, but it will require having enough space to fold them.

After-care Maintenance

How to clean California shutters? Shutter is easy to clean and maintain, just a few steps as following:

Dusting

  • We will suggest to use a Lambs’ wool or Ostrich feather duster for whichever type of shutter materials you have, from wood to vinyl. These types of dusters remove dust quickly and easily slip through the shutter slats or louvres.. Also you don’t have to worry about the finish will be scratched because these dusters are so soft.
  • Do one side first from up to down since you don’t want the dust from the top slats to settle at the lower slats.
  • You can use a hoover or vacuum cleaner to clean any dust or dirty because there might be some of them fall down on the floor or carpet during the cleaning.
  • Damp Cloth Cleaning

  • We have to say that you made a smart choice to have shutters in the kitchen and bathroom. You will like how convince the cleaning would take for the shutters. Once spots have already appeared on your shutters especially the shutters over the kitchen sink or in the bathroom, you can use a damp cloth to wipe the slats then use a dry cloth to wipe again to dry off moisture. Never leaving any liquid on the shutters that could cause the watermarks or stains.

Remember not to use any cleaning solutions that may damage the surface of the shutters.
